RSA Conference may not have officially started yet—the opening keynote is actually on Tuesday morning—but there were still plenty of great sessions and events on the agenda Monday.
The Cloud Security Alliance held its CSA Summit, focusing on enterprise cloud adoption and security lessons learned. Trusted Computing Group had its panel discussion combining mobile computing, Internet of Things, and cloud security.
We’ve been hearing a lot about DevOps recently and how it is gaining traction. DevOps.com had a series of sessions today as part of DevOps Connect: SecOps Edition. If you are interested in getting started with DevOps, check out the latest eBook.
The Professional Development had a series of great panels, starting with a discussion of the 2015 Global Information Security Workforce Study by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2). Another popular session was Across the Desk, where Lee Kushner of LJ Kushner and Associates and Lenny Zeltser of SANS Institute discussed the interview process. How can we be better interviews, as well as job candidates?
Innovation Sandbox
There is a lot of innovation in the information security industry—somebody has to tackle the hard questions, right? Ten companies faced a panel of judges at Innovation Sandbox and explained how they are changing security and to demonstrate their approach. Congratulations to Waratek for being named the “Most Innovative Company at RSA Conference 2015.” Ticto was named the runner-up.
One thing to remember about Innovation Sandbox: it’s not just about the winners. Just being one of the contest finalists can help security startups gain additional funding and market recognition. For information security buyers—CISOs and CEOs—the contest can act as a crystal ball. “When technology innovation is rapid, executives must understand what that vendor landscape looks like today, tomorrow, and 3-5 years in the future. By monitoring the Innovation Sandbox results its possible to have a leg up on the latest product direction and trends,” said Rick Holland, principal analyst at Forrester Research.
Looking Ahead
The conference kicks off bright and early Tuesday with an opening keynote by Amit Yoran, the new president of RSA Security. Find out what he has to say about security’s Dark Ages. If the keynote room is full, you can always go to the overflow room in the same room where Innovation Sandbox was, or head to the Viewing Point. Secretary Jeh Johnson will also discuss the evolving cybersecurity cybersecurity threat and Homeland Security's comprehensive strategy to address it.
The Expo floor opens Tuesday, too. Set aside some time to walk the floor. If you haven’t already checked out the Securosis Guide to the RSA Conference, this is a good time to do that.
It’s always worth attending the Cryptographers’ Panel, as we hear some of the giants of the industry—Paul Kocher, Adi Shamir, Ed Giorgio, Ronald Rivest, and Whitfield Diffie—talk about the state of cryptography and research.
If you have a full conference pass, definitely make it a point to stop by and check out peer-2-peer sessions. The first-ever RSAC crowdsourced session kicks off Tuesday with Denim Group’s John Dickson and his Hacking the CEO talk.
Tuesday evening is also the Executive Women’s Forum reception. One take away from Monday’s Breaking the Glass Firewall panel was the importance of networking and mentoring. Here is a great opportunity to get started.
