John Carlin currently co-chairs Paul Weiss’s Cybersecurity & Data Protection practice. He previously served as a top-level official in the US Justice Department including as the Acting Deputy Attorney General of the United States, as the top national security lawyer overseeing the National Security Division, and as the Chief of Staff to the Director of the FBI. John helped develop the DOJ’s approach to cybersecurity and launched the ransomware taskforce. John has advised many Fortune 50 and other global companies on reducing risk and in their response to major cyber incidents. John is the Founding Chair of the Aspen Institute’s Cybersecurity and Technology program. He is the author of Dawn of the Code War: America’s Battle Against Russia, China and the Rising Global Cyber Threat.
