The RSAC CyberSafety Village (CSV) showcases services agencies and non-profit organizations that provide education and guidance to parents seeking to learn how to teach their children to be safe and responsible online. RSAC CyberSmart Parents Education Workshop:  "The Always-On Generation and the Evolving Digital Landscape"
Monday, February 13, 1 – 3 PM
Moscone West, CyberSafety Village Presentation Stage
This seminar provides an overview to parents and caregivers on how to best support and secure their child’s online activities.

Session Description:
Our children are being exposed to technology at younger ages than ever before. They have never known a phone that wasn’t a camera or a world without technology. This workshop will explore the rapidly changing digital landscape and how our children and teens are using social media. The psychological responses to social media will be discussed including digital tethering, techno perfection, and lower capacity for solitude. As we move from being managers to consultants for our teens, staying actively involved is crucial to raising ethical and responsible digital citizens. This session looks at the issues that children and teens are experiencing and includes topics such as emotional responses to social media, sexting, impact on sleep and how to manage online reputations. Strategies for supporting and staying connected to our children will be discussed throughout the workshop and will include:

  • Online safety
  • Family rules and contracts
  • Conscious and responsible use
  • Building a positive reputation
  • Encouraging critical thinking
  • Friendship on social media
  • Impact of social media on the adolescent brain
