Once upon a time, the “Internet of Things” held unimaginable promise. Wi-Fi-connected refrigerators would automatically detect when we were out of milk and order it for us. Bluetooth-connected cameras would keep us safe from intruders. Then came Mirai and SSHOWDOWN and all the associated attacks, and suddenly the promise seems more like a threat.
