Weekend Reading: Microsoft Silverlight and the Internet of Things

Posted on by Jennifer Lawinski

We know your work days are so busy that many of the week's best infosec stories often get lost in the shuffle. That's where Weekend Reading comes in. We bring you the best news and analysis from the cybersecurity world, chosen by the field's best writers and editors.

This week we take a look at Microsoft Silverlight, the Internet of Things and whether security metrics are actually doing you any good.

Threatpost Editor in Chief Mike Mimoso recommends his Curious Tale of a Microsoft Silverlight Zero Day. "This article provides an inside look at how threat researchers at Kaspersky Lab hunted down what turned out to be a zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft Silverlight that was under attack, and the likely connection between the critical flaw and data stolen from Hacking," he writes.

Be sure you also check out his piece on OpenSSH: OpenSSH Patches Critical Flaw That Could Leak Private Crypto Keys.

If you're trying to figure out the role metrics should be playing in your security decisions, make time for Jai Vijayan's piece over at Dark Reading: The Four Big Problems With Security Metrics.

In case you missed it, I'm recommending Wired's look at How the Internet of Things Got Hacked. And for the encryption-minded, The Atlantic has a piece on The Long and Winding History of Encryption, you shouldn't miss.

Enjoy!
