Security Blogger Q&A - Security Spread

Jay, Security Spread: Security Awareness http://securityspread.com

Describe your blog in one sentence: Creating security awareness with the main focus on Mac.

How did you become interested in information security?

No one could provide me with answers when it came to security as it was/is a taboo for Mac users. So, I set out to learn and find my own answers.

Why did you decide to blog about security?

To create awareness and educate users on risks and how to protect data, privacy etc. Most Mac users today still think just owning a Mac is enough to stay safe online and keep data/privacy secure, but it isn’t.

What advice would you give a young person who is thinking about entering the security industry?

You want to learn and absorb it all, as much and as fast as possible – but try not to. Focus on one area at a time and branch out from there.

What’s the difference between white hats and black hats, and who’s to decide?

White hats are the defense, black hats the offense. I believe both are needed to make the world a safer place. Talk about next generation issues.

What are our future threats? What frightens you?

The security industry needs more people – many more. Security is often undervalued so the skilled and talented security experts do not get paid enough, and the bad guys are willing to pay for talent…

Do you like/love what you do?

Absolutely, I learn more every day and I love sharing what I learn with the readers of my blog.
