RSA Conference goes the full week, with the closing keynote on Friday, but for many people, today is the de facto last day. While there are plenty of sessions on tap for Friday morning, the expo hall closed this afternoon.
Many of the attendees, as well as members of the press, head home Thursday. If things went well, they would have a lot of ideas brimming in their heads about things they learned and insights they gained from listening to people. If things went great, then they will be full of excitement about projects they are excited to try out back in the office. And if by some catastrophe things didn’t quite go so well, then they will have achy feet. (If that’s you, please get in touch. We would like to figure out what went wrong. We want you to have an enriching experience…)
Over the last few days, as I walked from meeting to meeting, session to session, demonstration to demonstration, I sensed a feeling of determination in the air. Security is a global issue, with everyone having a stake in fixing the problem. This isn't a matter of "I do my thing, you do yours, and we will get it done." The sense I got is that we are all working together towards a common goal. It was inspiring to feel this vibe...we are going to prevail, and we will solve some of the big problems, because we are going to put all our minds together.
White Hat Security's Jeremiah Grossman told me this week how you can have a team of two or three really smart people square off against a team with more members, but not as much skills, and the team with more members will always perform better. That's why I am optimistic about security. With so many people dedicated to security, we can't help but see things improve. Sure, it's going to be a long haul, but it will happen. This conference has me feeling optimistic about our prospects.
We hope to see many of you at the bash tonight, or at venues around the area. If you are heading home today, have a safe trip home, and we will continue the great conversations you had this week online. And if you are here tomorrow, see you in the session rooms and at the Hugh Thompson Show!
