Preview - Privacy and Big Data

Posted on by Ben Rothke

Privacy is a hot topic, as it data.  With that, Privacy and Big Data seems to be an interesting read.

First off, what exactly is big data?  The authors define that much of what constitutes Big Data is information about us.  The authors note that via a person’s online activities, they leave an often easy-to-follow trail of digital footprints that reveal who they are, what they buy, where they go, and a whole lot more.

The authors note something that has long been observed – that once personal data has been collected, the owner (at least in the US, as opposed to the European Union) have no control over who uses it or how it is used.  The book discusses how the various countries deal with individual privacy.

At fewer than 100 pages, the book provides the reader with a high-level overview of the topic.

The Kindle edition of the book is under $10.  Given the importance of the topic, this might be one of the best buys of the year.

Looks to be a good read.
