Just got a copy of Elementary Information Security by Richard Smith. This is Smith’s third book, afterInternet Cryptography in 1997 and Authentication: From Passwords to Public Keys in 2001. Both of those were excellent books and it appears that Elementary Information Security is worth the wait. 

At over 800 pages, the book seems to easily live up to it title and seems to provide a highly comprehensive overview of all of the core topics around information security. 

The book jacket notes that “rather than emphasizing memorization, this text challenges students to learn how to analyze a variety of security problems and gain experience with the basic tools of this growing trade”.  With that, looks to be a valuable read.
