The magic of RSA Conference 2024 is that there truly is something for everyone. In fact, the RSAC Sandbox will host multiple villages where attendees can engage in hands-on learning experiences, learn how create capture-the-flag competitions, and see live tabletop demos. In exploring The Art of Possible, the RSAC Sandbox, running all week, is filled with opportunities to learn by doing. Additionally, RSA Conference 2024 invites attendees to test their “escape” skills and have a little fun playing while learning.
Get TRAPPED at RSA Conference 2024
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in collaboration with Idaho National Labs (INL) is bringing an escape room to RSAC. CISA’s Institutes Section Chief for Cyber Defense Education and Training, Greg Bastien, and INL Program Manager, Jeffrey L. Hahn, are debuting an ICScape Room called TRAPPED. Hahn explained this is the first time they are taking the escape room anywhere. College Day students as well as attendees with Expo Plus and Full Conference Passes can explore a scenario that follows the theme of Jurassic Park where they will navigate different issues and challenges as they find their way through different firewalls in order to access files and open the gates.
The target audience, Bastien explained, is those interested in OT and IT systems; however, the goal of the program is to bring OT and IT together and show what is possible if they work together. This is the 9th escape room CISA and INL have created. Bastian said, “What’s great about the escape room as a learning experience is that it’s accessible to anyone regardless of skillset or industry.”
If you miss the escape room this week, you can learn more about the online and in person ICS training available.
More Gamified Red Teaming
Looking for an accessible way to experience what GenAI can do and the safety and security issues in these tools? David Haber, CEO and Co-founder, Lakera AI was too. That curiosity gave birth to Gandalf, a tool to train users around AI and security. In his session, Advancing AI Security With Insights From The World’s Largest AI Red Team, Haber will dive into the game that tests the user’s ability to trick Gandalf into sharing secret information.
“We programmed an AI system named Gandalf with a hidden secret, and Gandalf is told not to reveal the secret to anyone out there in the world,” Haber explained. But is Gandalf any good at keeping secrets? Over the course of eight challenges, users will explore whether it’s possible to extract the secret from the AI system.
The game is intended to show how people are tampering with AI systems. “Gandalf has substantially advanced our understanding of some of these AI specific threats,” Haber said. “The world is moving at rapid speed, and there needs to be a way to protect these systems from a security standpoint.”
Recreational Cyber Leagues
With hundreds of students registered for College Day, it’s truly awesome to witness the creative approaches to skills development and educational training being offered by so many incredible organizations in the industry. The US Cyber Games is one of those organizations with a passion for creating cyber games. Jessica Gulick, Founder & CEO of Katzcy & PlayCyber, is driven by her passion to share cybersecurity as a sport, and US Cyber Games brings together the thrill of e-sport, cyber, and athletics to operate at levels beyond capture-the-flag (CTF) competitions.
Gulick will be at RSAC 2024 for College Day on Thursday May 9 in Moscone South 303 talking with college students and other attendees about the myriad engagement and learning opportunities available to women through US Cyber Games. “It’s similar to an athletic sport program identifying top talent in the US, starting with try outs then drafting a team, training, and competing,” Gulick explained. “The team competes internationally in red versus blue capture the flag games where participants learn to play and play to learn.”
Be sure to check out the ICScape Room, see if you can get Gandalf to share secrets, and visit the US Cyber Games table during College Day on Thursday May 9 in Moscone South 303. There’s a lot to learn and more fun to be had, so please explore the RSAC Sandbox Activities happening every day this week.
