Over the past three decades, RSA Conference has built strong relationships with many cybersecurity industry associations. Developing educational partnerships is core to our mission of programming that allows cybersecurity practitioners to spur professional growth and protect their organizations from cyberthreats.
In this blog post, we highlight the certifying body founded in 1999 as Global Information Assurance Certification. The company, now known as GIAC, has reportedly issued 173,822 professional certifications since 2000. GIAC certifications are esteemed the world over and have set a standard for assuring depth of knowledge and experience in the security industry. GIAC’s mission is achieved through developing information security certifications, and practitioners then sit for exams through SANS, which is the single source for GIAC certification exams.
How To Earn GIAC Credits at RSAC 2022
All GIAC certifications are valid for four years. In order to renew certifications, practitioners may either retake an exam or earn 36 Continuing Education Points (CPEs). The good news is RSAC 2022 attendees can earn up to 36 CPEs for attending RSAC by attending one or more events or tracks!
Practitioners can earn up to 6 CPE credits for enhancing their infosec skills (and showing them off) as they go head to head with peers through progressively difficult challenges during NetWars. Areas of competition include vulnerability assessment, malware analysis, digital forensics, and more. Additionally, attendees can earn up to 18 CPEs by attending applicable keynotes and 45-minute track sessions.
Security professionals can even earn up to 12 CPEs by attending one of the SANS two-day courses, such as SANS: A Practical Introduction to Cyber Security Risk Management or SANS: CIS Critical Controls: A Practical Introduction. Each day will earn attendees six CPEs.
Renewing GIAC certifications is an easy four-step process. Because they want to streamline and simplify the process, GIAC created this How-To Guide to help make renewal easier for practitioners. After Conference, simply submit a copy of a trip report with a certification renewal application to GIAC.
The Future of GIAC CPEs and RSAC 365
Given the ways that digital learning has expanded, there are even more opportunities to consume educational content and hone those vulnerability assessment skills.
To that end, GIAC is looking to expand its “Ways to Earn” feature in the future to include events in the community offerings beyond SANS conferences and summits. That’s great news for RSAC 365 Cybersecurity Learning program attendees. Explore our Library of content on industry topics to see which webcasts and seminars can help you earn more CPEs.
