We sat down with Linda Gray, director and general manager of RSA Conference, to discuss the new theme for 2017. Here’s what she had to say:
RSAC: Tell us about the new theme for the RSA Conference 2017.
Gray: For this year’s theme, we were inspired by a Zen approach to learning put forth by Shunryu Suzuki that one should pursue even the most advanced study with the mindset of a beginner. “In the beginner’s mind, there are many possibilities. In the expert’s mind, there are few.” We know that when we remove the boundaries of what can and can’t be done, we open ourselves to new opportunities.
With this approach in mind, we are excited to share the 2017 RSA Conference theme: The Power of Opportunity. RSA Conference is the place to embrace the opportunities in front of us from every standpoint, including professional development, moving the industry forward, and uniting as a community.
RSAC: How does this theme relate to RSA Conference?
Gray: RSA Conference is a conduit for the most advanced knowledge, insights, and inspiration that sparks real innovation and progress. It creates the inclusive atmosphere of sharing and exploration necessary for our industry to join together to tackle the larger issues beyond what we regularly face in our everyday jobs. It opens the door and invites all inside to reimagine and reinvent what’s accepted, what’s expected and what’s possible.
RSAC: How does the creative reflect the theme?
Gray: The ideas generated at RSA Conference always have a ripple effect on the industry. So the creative look of this year’s theme uses “ripples in the water” as a basis for the design. Large, colored circles echo each other and continually extend outward. As the circles overlap, they form new shapes and colors.
We hope you are as excited about the 2017 theme as we are. We look forward to bringing it to life for you at the RSA Conferences in 2017.
