Sam Merrell works at the CERT® Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Merrell co-developed a cybersecurity assessment for the US Department of Homeland Security that has been used hundreds of times across the 18 Critical Infrastructure sectors. Merrell is also a co-developer of the US DOE’s Electricity Subsector Cybersecurity Capability Maturity Model (ES-C2M2). Merrell holds a Master’s Degree in Information Assurance from Carnegie Mellon, an undergraduate degree in from the University of Pittsburgh, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, and certificates from SANS and ITIL. He also is an officer in the Pittsburgh chapter of (ISC)².
