Chief Information Security Officer, Virginia Tech
Randy Marchany is the University Information Security Officer for Virginia Tech. He is also the Director of the VA Tech IT Security Lab, a component of the universitys Information Technology Security Office. He is a Senior Instructor at the SANS Institute having joined SANS in 1992. He is a member of the EDUCAUSE security task force focusing on risk assessment and security metrics. He was a co-author of the original Center for Internet Security’s series of Security Benchmark documents for Solaris, AIX, Linux, and Windows and is an original member of CIS. He is one of the Founders of the US Cyber Challenge (USCC) Project, VASCAN, Virginia Cyber Range. He has spoken at various conferences such as RSAC, Educause SecPro, ACUA, and ISACA. He’s a co-holder of four cybersecurity patents.
