Paul Kocher is a security researcher and entrepreneur. His technical work includes co-authoring the SSL/TLS protocol, discovering differential power analysis, co-discovering the Spectre vulnerability, and architecting many security hardware cores. He founded Cryptography Research in 1995, which he led until its acquisition by Rambus, where he served as SVP/Chief Scientist until 2017. He now leads research efforts exploring how cryptography, compilers, AI, and computer architectures can help secure complex systems. He advises and invests in security start-ups. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, an International Association for Cryptologic Research Fellow, and received the 2019 Marconi Prize (with Taher Elgamal) and the RSA 2023 Award for Excellence in Mathematics.
