Michael Rose is a Policy Advisor in the Office of Digital Services Industries at the International Trade Administration. In this position, he works to promote policy frameworks to facilitate cross-border data flows to support trade. He works on the United States’ efforts to implement the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Cross Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) and Privacy Recognition for Processors (PRP) systems. He is also working with the Department’s lead advisor on the initiative to facilitate data transfers between the European Union and APEC economies by identifying commonalities between the EU system of Binding Corporate Rules and the APEC CBPR system. He also monitors regional privacy and data flows legislation in Latin America, Asia, and Africa for the Department of Commerce. Michael is CIPP certified, has a Masters of Public Policy from Liberty University and a B.A. in History from the University of the Pacific.
