In 2015, became the State’s first Chief Risk Officer. Maria is responsible for developing an integrated statewide framework to manage information risk, including operations, cybersecurity, and data protection. She began her career with 20 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as the Cybersecurity Chief for the Marine Corps. Previous roles include serving as the Iraq Theater of Operations Certification Authority. She also served in various cyber roles as a Senior Security Engineer/ Architect and Program Manager. Maria’s honors include NSA Rowlett Award – Individual Achievement, 2018 Triangle Business Journal Women in Business and State Scoop’s 50th Award State Cybersecurity Leader. Maria holds a Masters in IT from the University of Maryland, University College - Adelphi.
