Jon Dean was appointed Defence CISO in 2020 and was responsible for the Defence Cyber Security Strategy launched in 2021. He joined Defence as a graduate in 2002, working on various research projects. Jon led DST’s development in Cyber Mission Assurance and oversaw pioneering advancement in automated cyber operations, cyber threat intelligence and automated vulnerability analysis, as well as delivery of many Cyber Defence Mission Systems and establishment of a world leading international research program. He transitioned from research into operations in 2017 and led Defence’s inaugural operational cyber threat intelligence capability within CIO Group. In 2018 he was appointed Director of Cyber Security Operations and tasked with modernising the Defence Cyber Security Operations centre.
