James Arden “Jamie” Barnett, Jr., Rear Admiral USN (Ret.) became a partner this year in the law firm of Venable LLP and Co-Chair of Telecom, working in the firm’s cybersecurity practice. Admiral Barnett was previously the Senior Vice President for National Security Policy for the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, a science and technology policy think tank in the Washington, D.C. area. He completed a nearly 3 year tour as the Chief of the Federal Communications Commission's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau in April 2012. He was responsible for overseeing FCC activities pertaining to public safety, homeland security, emergency management and disaster preparedness. Under his leadership, the Bureau proposed major initiatives for Next Generation 9-1-1.
