James Platt

James Platt is the Chief of DHS’s Strategic Defense Initiatives. Since 2016 he has led efforts to define position, navigation, and timing requirements for critical infrastructure. He was a major contributor in developing the concepts and requirements in Presidential Executive Order 13905, Strengthening National Resilience through Responsible Use of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service. In 2019 Platt’s responsibilities expanded to include electromagnetic pulse defense, space weather operations, and space risks. He served as the Deputy Director of the Strategy, Policy and Budget, Office for Infrastructure Protection and coordinated the Critical Infrastructure Security and Resiliency Research and Development (CISR R&D) subcommittee at the National Science and Technology Council.
