MaryAnne Franks is a law professor at the University of Miami School of Law, where she teaches first amendment law, law and technology and criminal law. She is the President and Policy Director of the non-profit Cyber Civil Rights Initiative. She drafted the first model criminal statute on nonconsensual pornography, which has been used as the template for multiple state laws and for pending federal legislation. Franks regularly advises legislators and tech industry leaders on issues relating to online privacy, extortion, harassment and threats. She is the author of The Cult of the Constitution: Our Deadly Devotion to Guns and Free Speech (Stanford Press 2019). Franks holds a JD from Harvard and a doctorate and master’s degree from Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.
