Julie Brill leads Microsoft’s global efforts to elevate privacy as a fundamental human right. Brill serves as a global authority concerning privacy, Internet governance, telecommunications, accessibility, and corporate standards. Prior to coming to Microsoft, Brill served as a Commissioner of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where she worked on issues of critical importance to consumers, including privacy, antitrust, fair advertising practices, and fighting financial fraud. While at the FTC, Brill was named “the Commission’s most important voice on Internet privacy and data security issues” and was most recently named a Top Data Privacy Influencer of 2020, among other honors. Brill graduated, magna cum laude, from Princeton University, and from New York University School of Law.
