Algorithms that “predict the future” are common today, from determining what one might watch next to whether or not a person might commit a crime. Given their impact on humanity, it is essential to use algorithms ethically—how are the benefits of algorithms known? When are they perpetuating bias? Determining the answer is easier with the right tools, an inquisitive mind, and a coherent strategy.
