Secure the Pod Bay Doors, HAL: Cybersecurity Risks of IoT Automation

Posted on in Presentations

Home automation systems have become so complex that they are now introducing enterprise-level risk into the smart home. Find out how two researchers evaluated these risks by building two complete home automation systems and launching smart attacks against them. They will demonstrate how they programmed and hacked into the environment, then propose solutions to address these emerging cyberthreats.

Learning Objectives:
1: Understand what complex IoT environments are and why they introduce enterprise-level risk to the home.
2: Understand smart attacks, how to execute them and the risk factors.
3: Learn how to protect smart homes from smart attacks using existing and future technologies.

Pre-Requisites:
Programming experience using scripting languages, e.g., Perl, Yaml. Understanding of OSINT techniques.
