Hype or Myth: Smart Home Security

Posted on in Presentations

IoT is not secure, it’s vulnerable, leaks data, can be hacked indiscriminately. Researchers built a smart home to see if the claims are true or false, both for privacy and security. Does a vulnerable IoT device spawn issues on other devices, a pyramid of risk? What’s the aggregated risk when you view a smart home as a single entity, what can be hacked and what are the real-world consequences?

Learning Objectives:
1: Demonstrate whether an IoT smart home really poses a security and privacy risk.
2: Explore whether privacy in a smart home is even possible.
3: Encourage the audience to view IoT devices, security and privacy collectively.
