Getting Credit for Sessions at RSA Conference
The following is a transcript of my podcast on CE Credits.
There are numerous ways to obtain Continuing Education Credits at RSA Conference 2014. RSA Conference partners with many associations that not only provide credits but also great sessions and events. I will now detail what you need to do for (ISC)2, ISACA, IAPP, GIAC, the ABA as well as how you can go about getting other credits.
(ISC)2
Full Conference attendees who are (ISC)² members can earn up to 35 CPE credits for attending RSA Conference 2014. The process is very simple – enter your membership number during registration. If you left out your membership number you can log back into registration and enter it any time. After the Conference we send a list of each (ISC)² member name, membership number and applicable credits.
ISACA
ISACA members are entitled to CPE credits for attending RSA Conference 2014. You can earn 1 CPE credit for each applicable track session that is 60 minutes and keynote sessions subject to ISACA approval. You will need to self-report your attendance information with a copy of the post-conference trip report that will be sent to the email address that you provided at registration. The report is generated through badge scanning at each session. I recommend you do it sooner rather than later when you receive your trip report. We have had attendees send us requests for past years because they are being audited and they have to rely on their memories since we do not save the scans.
GIAC
Global Information Assurance Certification holders may earn up to 12 Certification Maintenance Units for attending applicable keynote and 60 minute track sessions. You will need to enter your GIAC Portal Account email address when you register for RSA and then after the conference, submit a copy of your trip report and the proper recertification application to GIAC. You can earn another 12 CMUs by attending one of the four SANS two-day tutorials being offered on February 23 through 24. You will need to submit a copy of your Certificate of Completion to receive your CMUs.
IAPP
The International Association of Privacy Professionals will award up to 12 CPE credits. Members will need to self-report their attendance information for credits by completing a CPE application form and providing support documentation such as your trip report.
American Bar Association
The Law track at RSA Conference is sponsored by the ABA Section of Science &Technology Law. The Science & Technology Law Information Security Committee has applied for Continuing Legal Education Credits in all mandatory CLE states for all sessions in the law track. Attendees in the LAW track will be able to sign up to receive CLE credits for each session right in the session room.
Other Certifications
Every year we get emails from Conference attendees asking for documentation for certification or credits for other organizations as well as for their own company programs. We can usually accommodate your requests if you send us the documentation you need signed to our email address: information at rsaconference dot com. It’s always good to keep a copy of your trip report as documentation or at least a listing of the sessions you attended for your reference. As I mentioned before, we do not keep the data so if you put off applying for certifications you will have to rely on your memory. We use the scan data for generating the trip reports, making sure you can do electronic evaluations which is new this year and for attendance counts. We don’t save the information.
We have a fantastic Conference ahead of us and I hope to see you there.
