Position Summary

The Manager of Networks and Security provides technical leadership and support for our growing LAN, WAN, Security services and technologies.

This role will be responsible for advancing Network and Security initiatives that align with defined IT strategies to support and grow the Ultragenyx business. This position will have 2 main areas of responsibility. The position is responsible for the delivery of Ultragenyx’s physical and logical networking, which includes ISP’s, LAN, WAN, wireless, and firewall services. Additionally the position will have key accountability in managing a growing cybersecurity program. This includes managed assessments, policy delivery, and required certifications as required by IT security functions. The candidate will be responsible for the management services, processes and metrics in order to successfully deliver and represent each service area. The successful candidate will be a team player that understands and supports execution of the overall IT vision. This individual will use extensive expertise, solution-oriented thinking, and service dedication to build and maintain the continuous commitment of IT to support the company.

•Key accountability for the design and delivery of Ultragenyx Network infrastructure.
•Responsible for leading activities in support of established and new cybersecurity programs
•Manage activities of internal/external resources within the project or service delivery area
•Responsible for budget execution and tracking as part of the group or service delivery area
•Participate in development of IT vision; translate the vision into short-/long-term goals and deliverables
•Leads the evaluation and selection of network and security technologies in conjunction with IT strategy and business requirements
•Responsible for delivery of network support as a service area utilizing multiple resources.
•Conduct design review of systems and applications to ensure adherence with identified stability, performance, and security standards.
•Ensure proper analysis, design and documentation, implementation, test and delivery as performed by the various teams supporting Network and Security services.
•When supervising vendors or contractors, provide managerial support with overall responsibility of leading, training, and mentoring for effective performance

Core Competencies, Knowledge and Skill Requirements

•Demonstrated ability to build and manage a global network infrastructure supporting a growing company with adherence to design and security standards.
•Previous experience with a diverse environment with multiple technology stacks in production is required
•Expertise with most of the following technologies is preferred (Cisco Catalyst, Meraki, ASA, PaloAlto, WAN optimization, Azure and AWS appliances)
•Expertise with the following areas is a plus (Windows Domains, SSO providers, Office365, Support of VOIP or Video Teleconferencing)
•Expertise on implementing solutions of these types is required (Multi-Factor Authentication, Remote Network Access, Intrusion Detection, Web Filtering)
•Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work breakdown structures and testing philosophies.
•Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, data privacy practices and laws including FDA 21 CFR Part 11, SOX, HIPAA, SOC, ISO.

Desired Experience
•6-8 years of demonstrated experience in a senior or lead position managing enterprise networks and cybersecurity
•Proven ability to build relationships using formal and informal networks and effective communication with the ability to adapt within the organization.
•Must be able to solve complex problems, develop strategies, and implement solutions
•Thorough knowledge of IT concepts, procedures and practices in the Software Development Life Cycle
•Strong experience using multiple collaboration tools to work with remote staff and contractors
•Experience in a highly virtualized environment is required
•Strong understanding of troubleshooting system issues in support of IT applications
•Must have a strong understanding of IT Support as part of a business function (SLA’s, ITIL practices, etc.)


BS/BA degree preferred or equivalent combination of education/work experience
