The Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) is increasingly used and specified in cryptographic products. The KMIP standard is far from ideal, and if interpreted and implemented literally can result in non-interoperable, vulnerable applications. Flaws in the standard are identified, and examples of correct use are presented to assist developers and integrators build secure, interoperable applications and systems.
