WebSockets are a compelling feature of HTML5. They offer a simple browser API and introduce an entirely new protocol. This simple, flexible protocol enables browsers to perform common tasks more efficiently or create complex apps that HTTP can't handle. But using WebSockets requires new code for web servers and careful programming to avoid making your web site less secure.
