A Champion’s View: Data-Driven Performance, Risk Management and Security in F1

Speaker: Jacques Villeneuve, Formula One World Champion, IndyCar Series Champion
Interviewer: Mark Gallagher, Formula One Industry Executive

28 July, 2017 | 14.55 hrs | Roselle Simpor Ballroom 4700

Formula One has been a data-driven sport for over 25 years, and anyone who has won the world championship during that time understands that success, safety and survival are due to the way information has been managed. Jacques Villeneuve and Mark Gallagher know more than most about how closely performance and risk management are related in this connected environment of speed, high technology and data management.

Jacques Villeneuve
Canadian Jacques Villeneuve won the 1997 Formula One World Championship for the Williams-Renault team, a remarkable feat given that he achieved it in only his second full season of Formula One motor racing. Winning the ultimate prize in motor racing came after winning the Indy Car series in the United States in 1995, during which he also won the world-famous Indianapolis 500. He is one of only three drivers ever to achieve this ‘triple’, and his Formula One career continued until 2006, since when he has competed in a wide range of motor sports series. He is further renowned as the son of Gilles Villeneuve, often regarded as one of the most exciting drivers ever to drive for Ferrari’s Formula One team, and whose career was ended by a tragic accident during the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix.

Mark Gallagher
A Senior Executive and respected Broadcaster in the adrenaline-charged world of Formula One, Mark Gallagher translates his experiences from the race track to the language of business. Gallagher’s passion for the sport has been partly driven by the dual challenges of managing risk and high performance. His roles at the Jordan and Red Bull Racing Formula One teams were followed by his relaunch of Cosworth as one of Formula One’s best-known technology suppliers. He played a key role in developing current technical regulations which place an emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability. His latest book, The Business of Winning: Strategic Success from the Formula One Track to the Boardroom, exposes the behind-the-scenes management of a Grand Prix team ensuring business continuity, viability and profitability.
