Undersecretary, California Emergency Management Agency
Mike Dayton is the Undersecretary of the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA). Dayton was the Acting Secretary for Cal EMA until February 2, 2012, when the Governor appointed him to his current position.
He worked at the California Governor’s Office of Homeland Security since its inception in March of 2003. After the formation of Cal EMA, he served as the agency’s Chief of Staff, Deputy Secretary, Acting Undersecretary and Acting Secretary.
He is responsible for the overall strategic initiatives and provides guidance on the investment of federal and state funds to enhance homeland security and emergency preparedness capabilities in California.
Prior to joining the Office of Homeland Security and Cal EMA, he was a Congressional staffer in Washington D.C. for 13 years.
