Mayank Upadhyay has been working in the security space for about fifteen years. Upadhyay heads a team at Google that works on "strong" user authentication, building features like 2-step verification for consumers. His team is also devising a smart card-like specification in collaboration with an external partner. Previously, he worked on various aspects of backend cloud security at Google. Before coming to Google, he worked on WiFi security at various startups, and at Sun Microsystems led Kerberos and GSS-API authentication in the Java platform while also contributing to the NFS Security team in Solaris. He has an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, where he first got interested in the world of security.
